Acute & Chronic Pain
At Rudra Ayurvedic Clinic, we recognise that pain is not just a symptom. It’s a signal of underlying imbalance.
Ayurveda classifies pain based on its type, source, and doshas involved. Each type has a unique root cause and requires a tailored approach.
- Musculoskeletal pain – Sandhigata Vata, Vata with Ama or degeneration.
- Neuropathic pain – Vata Vyadhi, Excess Vata in nerves.
- Inflammatory pain – Ama Vata, Vata + Ama + Pitta
- Kaphaja Sandhivata – Joint heaviness and swelling due to Kapha imbalance.
- Abdominal pain – Shoola, Vata + Pitta
- Headache – Shirashoola Varies, Vata, Pitta, Kapha
- Menstrual pain – Kashta Artava, Vata predominant

Recognise the signs early
Ayurveda and modern science interpret pain differently. While allopathic medicine focuses on nerve blocks or anti-inflammatory drugs, Ayurveda addresses the root cause based on doshic imbalances.
Physical Symptoms (As per modern understanding):
- Inflammation & swelling
- Nerve pain or tingling (e.g. sciatica)
- Chronic stiffness post-injury or repetitive strain
- Menstrual cramps or migraines
Ayurvedic Observations (Rooted in dosha imbalance):
- Ama build-up & aggravated Pitta
- Vata Vyadhi – Excess Vata in Majja Dhatu (nerves)
- Sandhigata Vata – Degeneration + dryness
- Kashta Artava / Shirashoola based on doshic pattern
What does the research say?

Herbal Support
Shallaki (Boswellia) has demonstrated significant anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, particularly effective in managing pain from osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Oil Massage
Combination therapies using Ashwagandha, Rasna, and Bala help nourish nerves, ease stiffness, and reduce chronic inflammatory pain commonly seen in sciatica or fibromyalgia.

Panchakarma Support
A 2022 meta-analysis published in Complementary Therapies in Medicine confirmed that Ayurvedic oil therapies (Abhyanga, Pizhichil) and Panchakarma procedures offer superior pain relief and improved mobility compared to placebo.
